Facts

In the context of the Sudan crisis and its spillover into eastern Chad, the border region around Guereda experienced a steady influx of refugees fleeing violence and instability. As humanitarian actors mobilised to respond to growing needs in these remote areas, reliable communications became a critical requirement for coordination, protection activities, and the delivery of assistance.

To support operations on the ground, emergency.lu deployed a satellite connectivity solution to the UNHCR field office in Guereda. The system was designed to function primarily as a backup communication link, ensuring continuity of operations in an environment where local telecommunications infrastructure was either unreliable or insufficient to support the scale of humanitarian activities.

At the heart of the deployment was the Ranger‑170 antenna, one of the long-serving and robust assets of the emergency.lu fleet. Known for its durability and adaptability, the system once again demonstrated its value in a remote, high‑demand operational setting, providing dependable satellite connectivity when it was most needed.

The deployment enabled:

  • Reliable fallback connectivity for UNHCR operations
  • Support for the wider humanitarian community operating in and around Guereda
  • Sustained coordination, reporting, and information exchange
  • Improved operational resilience in a challenging border environment
