Hurricane Beryl – UNDAC Deployment

In this interview, Luxembourg’s UNDAC Member Yves Legil reflects on his rapid deployment to Union Island after Hurricane Beryl, describing the scale of destruction, coordination challenges, and the resilience shown by affected communities.

Cyclone Batsirai

Luxembourg deployed an expert through IHP to support the UNDAC mission in Madagascar after Cyclone Batsirai, contributing to rapid needs assessment and coordination of international emergency response efforts.

Hurricane Dorian

Requested via the EU civil protection mechanism, emergency.lu deployed two volunteers with one e.lu rapid deployment kit to the area affected by Hurricane Dorian – a category 5 hurricane.

Cyclone Idai

Following Cyclone Idai, emergency.lu deployed five satellite systems in Mozambique, restoring connectivity for over 1,600 responders, enabling coordination, data sharing, and relief operations across severely affected regions, including Beira and Buzi.

Hurricane Irma

Emergency.lu restored critical connectivity in Saint Martin after Hurricane Irma, enabling airport operations, humanitarian logistics, and coordination, ensuring rapid delivery of aid and effective response in a severely damaged environment.

Hurricane Maria

emergency.lu re-established critical connectivity in the Caribbean following hurricanes Irma and Maria, in September 2017. Disaster Response Kits provided critical connectivity for the coordination center in Dominica and restored connectivity for the airport in Saint Martin.

Cyclone Enawo

On Tuesday, 7 March 2017, Cyclone Enawo made landfall in north-east Madagascar, with heavy rains and winds reaching up to 300km/h. Thousands of people have been forced to leave their homes due to damage caused by the cyclone.
