Facts

The IOM Emergency Response and Induction Training (ERIT), hosted in Luxembourg, brought together 24 participants from around the world for an intensive five-day programme. Luxembourg, through emergency.lu, provided comprehensive logistical support, including training facilities, accommodation, and coordination, ensuring a high-quality and immersive learning environment.

ERIT is designed to prepare IOM staff for rapid deployment and effective engagement in emergency operations. The training focuses on essential competencies such as operational coordination, emergency procedures, team integration, and working within complex humanitarian contexts. Participants strengthen their readiness to respond quickly and effectively in the field.

A central component of the training is a full-day simulation exercise set in the fictional context of Afaland. This scenario places participants in a fast-evolving emergency, where they must assess needs, establish operational structures, coordinate with multiple actors, and make critical decisions under pressure. The simulation replicates realistic field conditions, reinforcing teamwork, adaptability, and practical application of knowledge.

The aim of ERIT is to equip participants with the skills, confidence, and operational understanding required to contribute effectively to IOM’s emergency responses, ensuring timely, coordinated, and accountable humanitarian action.
