Facts

Hosted in Luxembourg, the IOM Senior Emergency Leadership and Accountability Course (SELAC) 2026 brought together 21 participants from 20 duty stations worldwide for an intensive leadership training. Luxembourg ensured high-quality logistical support, including training facilities, accommodation, and overall coordination, creating an optimal environment for learning and exchange.

The course is designed to prepare experienced professionals for senior emergency management roles within complex humanitarian contexts. Through interactive sessions and realistic scenarios, participants strengthened their competencies in strategic leadership, decision-making, and operational oversight during crises.

SELAC focuses on the responsibilities, functions, and dilemmas faced by Chiefs of Mission and Heads of Office, including how to position and steer emergency responses, establish internal structures, recruit teams, and mobilize resources effectively.

The aim of the training is to equip participants with the knowledge and practical tools required to lead and manage large-scale emergency operations, ensuring effective, coordinated, and accountable humanitarian responses in line with IOM’s mandate.
