Following the havoc caused by Hurricane Beryl, Luxembourg has deployed its emergency.lu solution and members of its Humanitarian Intervention Team to support the affected populations and UNOCHA’s relief efforts on the islands of Grenada and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
Turkiye earthquake 2023
On 6 February 2023, at 04:17 TRT (01:17 UTC), a Mw 7.8 earthquake struck southern and central Turkey and northern and western Syria. The epicenter was 37 km (23 mi) west–northwest of Gaziantep. The earthquake had a maximum Mercalli intensity of XII (Extreme) around the epicenter and in Antakya.
Tonga
One of the largest eruptions of the Hunga-Tonga-Hunga-Ha-apai underwater volcano in the past 30 years occurred on 15 January 2022. Requested by the emergency telecommunications cluster, Luxembourg deployed two emergency.lu terminals on Vava’u and Ha’apai.
Magnitude 7.2 earthquake, Haiti 2021
At 12:29:08 (UTC) on August 14th, 2021, a magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck the Tiburon Peninsula, in the Caribbean nation of Haiti.
Hurricane Dorian, Bahamas
Requested via the EU civil protection mechanism, emergency.lu deployed two volunteers with one e.lu rapid deployment kit to the area affected by Hurricane Dorian – a category 5 hurricane.
Mozambique 2019
On March 14th 2019 Cyclone Idai made landfall in Mozambique with winds of up to 115 mph/185 kph and more than 150mm of rain in 24 hours, destroying around 90% of Beira and affecting more than 600.000 people
Madagascar Cyclone Enawo 2017
On Tuesday, 7 March 2017, Cyclone Enawo made landfall in north-east Madagascar, with heavy rains and winds reaching up to 300km/h. Thousands of people have been forced to leave their homes due to damage caused by the cyclone.
