Facts

Continuing conflict, compounded by natural disaster, has exacerbated Yemen’s prolonged humanitarian crisis, rendering an estimated 21.2 million people in need of humanitarian assistance.
Given this context, the ETC was activated in Yemen in April 2015
to provide the humanitarian community with internet connectivity, among other services.

To overcome the connectivity problems and provide assistance to the Emergency Telecommunications Cluster (ETC), emergency.lu has been providing internet connectivity on an inter-agency vessel traveling between Aden and Djibouti and managed by WFP using Astra Connect for Maritime, a satellite-based broadband solution for the maritime market.
