Following a coup d’état in Bamako, the Emergency Telecommunications Cluster (ETC) was activated on 5th April 2012 to provide vital security communications and internet connectivity services to the community responding to urgent humanitarian needs.
emergency.lu supported the cluster with one system deployed in Mopti. A second kit was on standby in Bamako.
After two years of operations, ETC functions were mainstreamed into normal operations of the humanitarian systems.
On March 14th 2019 Cyclone Idai made landfall in Mozambique with winds of up to 115 mph/185 kph and more than 150mm of rain in 24 hours, destroying around 90% of Beira and affecting more than 600.000 people
On 6 February 2023, at 04:17 TRT (01:17 UTC), a Mw 7.8 earthquake struck southern and central Turkey and northern and western Syria. The epicenter was 37 km (23 mi) west–northwest of Gaziantep. The earthquake had a maximum Mercalli intensity of XII (Extreme) around the epicenter and in Antakya.
