Facts

Hosted in Luxembourg over a three-week period, the UNICEF SafeChild workshop series brought together participants from around the world for an immersive learning experience focused on digital child protection in emergencies. Through emergency.lu, Luxembourg provided comprehensive logistical support, including training facilities, accommodation, and coordination, ensuring a high-quality learning environment throughout the programme.

The series consisted of three complementary modules: SafeChild Digital for Emergencies, SafeChild Digital Foundations, and SafeChild Digital Empowerment. Together, they guided participants from core concepts to advanced application, combining theory, practical exercises, and collaborative discussions. The workshops explored how digital tools and approaches can be safely and effectively leveraged to protect children in humanitarian contexts, while addressing risks, ethical considerations, and operational challenges.

Participants developed skills to design, implement, and manage digital child protection interventions, with a strong focus on responsible use of technology, safeguarding principles, and adapting solutions to complex emergency settings.

The aim of the SafeChild series is to strengthen global capacity to integrate safe, ethical, and effective digital solutions into child protection programming, ensuring that vulnerable children are better protected in increasingly digitalized humanitarian responses.
