In Dori, Burkina Faso, a town now hosting over 180,000 displaced people (the largest displacement hub in the region), a new solar-powered Digital Learning and Multimedia Centre has opened, offering vital digital access and training.
Against a backdrop of displacement, insecurity, and limited infrastructure, a new chapter began on 22 May 2025—one where connectivity as a form of aid became a reality, driven by innovation, community spirit and global partnership. The center is a collaboration between the WFP-led Emergency Telecommunications Cluster (ETC), emergency.lu, and the Government of Luxembourg.
Equipped with high-speed internet, computer literacy workshops, a digital library, and mobile charging stations, the center empowers communities affected by conflict and displacement. Since its soft launch in 2024, it has welcomed over 4,000 visits, with growing demand for its services.
Locally managed and fully solar-powered, the center is a model of sustainable, community-led development—bridging the digital divide and offering new opportunities in one of the Sahel’s most vulnerable regions.
