Gilles Hoffmann, emergency.lu team leader during the deployment in the Philippines, recaps in an article about emergency.lu's first deployment to an unexpected natural disaster. The article has been published on the website of ViaSatellite. Gilles reports how the satellite based communication plateform provided free internet connectivity to the humanitarian community working in the badly affected areas
The three last emergency.lu volunteers out of a team of 6 returned to Luxembourg on 4 December, of which 1 German volunteer from the Technisches Hilfswerk (THW).
Their support to the Emergency Telecommunication Cluster, as well as their participation in an International Humanitarian Partnership (IHP) deployment in support of OCHA (UNDAC) were the first real emergency.lu deployment in response to a large-scale disaster.
All six team members are in good physical and mental condition. Their good work and the positive feedback from numerous humanitarian organizations and technical colleagues gave them the strength to cope with the difficult working conditions and the misery and devastation they experienced. Mission accomplished!
